  1. I know this is a bit crazy but I have never skateboarded in my life before and I am committed to getting a Carbon G.T.

    When I get it what tips do you guys have for riding and how should I avoid traffic and retarded drivers, and should I stick to the road or sidewalk?

    Hi Dominic,

    As a new rider I would avoid paths and roads to start with - better off in parks and empty spaces. Pedestrians and cars far too unpredictable for an experienced rider let alone someone new to the board. Kids glued to mobile phones stepping out are a nightmare!! When I first got my GT it rained 2 days straight so out of frustration I headed to an empty multi storey car park one evening which turned out to be a good place to try it out and get some basics. Buy as much protection as you can afford. Good helmet a must, knee pads and elbow pads recommended too. Practice your way up to GT mode, don't run before you can walk... but most of all have fun! :)

    I definitely agree with starting in the park or somewhere like an empty parking garage or large outdoor parking lot.

    Get a helmet before your board arrives, it'll be too tempting not to go out once you've got it and you need a helmet.

    The other piece of safety gear I'd recommend at a minimum is wrist guards. Something like this:

    My first proper tumble messed one of my wrists up for a couple of weeks, which was no fun.

    Get lots of hours under your belt until your comfortable with the trigger sensitivity and breaking before attempting sidewalks and roads.

    I'd never skateboarded before and I kept it in eco mode for my first few rides, nothing wrong with not jumping up to top speed straight away. Take it slowly but surely until your leg muscles adjust and you get a feel for the board and the trigger.

    You'll do great! :thumbsup::punch:

    +1 wrist guards as a first call for protection. In the two falls I've had, I went straight onto my hand on both.

    Nothing wrong with getting a board without skating first. You'll pick it up within a few days.
