Jacob, on the facebook group has put together this mockup looking for feedback, what do y'all think?

Looks like a boosted with a screen.

Heh, yeah, it does look like the design may have been boosted from elsewhere. If it's a tried and tested design that can be adapted to work, might not be a bad base to work from.

There's a rumour Evolve are working on a complete redesign themselves. But that's only a rumour.

Personally I do not like the Boosted remote. The GT remote with a trigger guard has been working very well for me. The guard allows me to control the trigger more precisely & it protects from most accidental movements...

If they are making a new remote I really hope they make it water proof and use inductive charging.

Fat chance of inductive charging, weatherproofing should be pretty achievable though.

Waterproofing and inductive charging go hand in hand in my head, mostly because waterproofing a USB port can't be easy.

Does it have a dead man's switch? I think it is important even though Evolve seem to have removed the protocol level one...

Can you gear the trigger so it is less abrupt for acceleration?

Also Jacob changed out the joystick / 4-way potentiometer. Like myself, he also sees issues with it like I do. Its not accurate, it has 30% dead space before you get anything, both when you regen and accelerate (so really 60% dead space), then its very gradual and touchy.

Since he busted his remote he went ahead and replaced the crappy 4-way joystick / potentiometer Evolve chose to go with and installed a proper 2-way potentiometer that's proper for an electric skateboard application. He said that alone fixed much of the issues with the feel and use of the trigger.

I also talked with another engineer, electrical, at work and questioned why Evolve would throw a 4-way joystick in the remote that needs a 2-way. He said straight and forward, lower cost. Its WAY cheaper since they're used in game controller joysticks. Game controller joysticks however don't need the resolution that we need on our electric skateboards either. Going cheap is not always the best way to go as we all know.... Hence one of the many (personal) reasons the Evolve remote sucks! But this is EXACTLY what bigger companies do.... penny pinch the large numbers which are customers, which in turn, creates larger margins and profits on what they sell for them.

Evolve. We're paying a very high price for this board that our life depends upon, please put quality parts in the product please!!!

I personally like the thumb action that Jacob designed. It also is way better to see the LCD display of the remote. II know my hand / base / side of my thumb covers the side of the LCD screen, if the thumb is used for a throttle/brake, you have a clear unobstructed view of the scree. Since my remote casing isn't busted, I'm going to hunt down a quality potentiometer / joystick replacement for my remote first and see if that fixes some of my many issues I still have with the board. And I'm still getting dangerous remote dropouts between the board with the remote in certain areas I ride due to interference. I'm going to add an external antenna running along the top of the seam of the battery box cover. It will be directly connected to the bluetooth antenna on the controller housed inside the carbon fiber casing as a test and possibly quick fix rather than hunting down a fiberglass battery cover, which should have been done in the 1st place.

Here's a link to Jacob's video showing his dead-man's switch and the proper 2-way joystick/potentiometer implemented on the bare remote. Very Nice.

any idea on if/when this would be released?

He's not selling it, he broke his original remote and making it better while recycling the guts.

...but we could get the guys who're making the trigger guard and motor covers to create the case if he's willing to share the CAD / 3d file. Then we just source the new 2-way pot and dead mans switch.

    Paging Nickelberry & SteveS33!

I don't think Jacob is on the forum, there's no one registered with that name. Maybe someone can point him in this direction if they see him.

I would be interested to know if anyone can actually see the screen in it's current position while riding... For me it is a lit up area that tells me where to put my thumb!

Yeah the screen position is crap, it should be relocated an inch higher in the top of the remote.
