My advice. Buy the exact socket and take it to someone with soldering skills and a re-flow iron (or fine soldering station). It will be a expensive way to find out you can;t solder on a $120 controller.

    Hi guys,

I want to put a pro-active tip in here for the remote USB charge plug that's on the remote side. Note that this plug is very very fragile It appears that when you charge the remote from different USB plugs that some may be sticker than others and that the plug may be pulled from all different angles and break the USB connector off inside the remote. I've seen these failures testing consumer devices and what needs to happen is that the plastic that houses the USB connector needs to support the connector. The failure is that the connector is only soldered down lightly on the top left / right side on small pads to the board. If the USB connector wiggles any bit, which is quite easy, the solder joints break then the USB connector pops off.

Now that my USB connector popped off like what had happened in this thread and I see how and why it failed I recommend others to use a glue gun to secure this USB connector to the PCB board before it breaks loose. I'd put a dab under it and to the sides of it. That should help re-enforce the connector so it won't pop off and break the solder joints. Just make sure you don't have any glue blobs that prevent the remote enclosure from properly clamping down when you go to put the remote back together.

And thinking about this further, you'd want to use a hard type of epoxy rather than the glue gun around the USB connector. The glue gun glue is flexible, so over time you can actually still wiggle the solder connection off the PCB. Hence why a rigid epoxy is best.

^ Contact Evolve and let them know what happened, they should exchange your busted remote for a new one. And as I mentioned in another thread, put some epoxy over top of the USB connector bonding it to the PCB board so it has support so you won't be in the same boat again.

I already contacted evolve U.K. But they told me to replace the port in any phone shop ... and a new one are 99£.here is the answer ..
    Hi Eddy,

Sorry to hear about your remote. Unfortunately we don't have any remotes in stock untill the end of April. By when we will have the new website.

If you can't wait, you're best bet would be to solder on a new USB charging port. Maybe even a repair mobile phone shop can do it! It will be cheaper to repair than to buy a new one.

We do however have everything else you have asked for. We will send you an invoice shortly.

If you could please pass on all the details needed for shipping.

Interesting. Thing is that if the usb connector pulled off the pads of the PCB board, its hosed. That's what happened to mine. A new connector won't fix that. Good luck.
