So you may have noticed this new forum called New Members

It's setup specifically so new and existing members alike can post a thread to tell the rest of the the forum a little bit a bout themselves, so we can get to know each other a little better.

I'll kick it off. So I'm Alex! Did you figure that that already?

I first encountered the concept of electric skateboards about a year ago when watching YouTube vlogger Casey Neistat zipping around NYC on his Boosted Board. I thought it was one of the coolest gadgets I'd seen in a very long time.

I had never been a skater, but having been a snowboard instructor in the past I figured I stood a chance of being able to ride one without falling on my ass too much (I was wrong, still fall on my ass a lot on my eboard!)

Having hunted high and low to source a decent board in the UK (Boosted didn't at the time, and still don't ship internationally) I luckily managed to come across the Evolve brand.

I stumbled across the wonderful community in the Evolve Owners Facebook Group and met Andy. Being the gentleman and scholar that he is, he invited me up to the Gadget Show Live Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham.

He and Mark Evolve UK hooked me up with a pre-GT Carbon (GT's hadn't been announced yet) and thus I began my journey into the eskate rabbit hole.

After hanging out in the Facebook group for many months, I was seeing tons of great content being posted. Unfortunately due to the ephemeral nature of Facebook posts, much of that great content would get lost within a day or two and the conversation would die down. So I began work on this forum so we could have a platform more suitable to long from conversation and posts (such as guides with rich media) regarding Evolve and eskating in general, which would be indexed and hopefully more easily searchable, categorisable and discoverable than content within a Facebook group. I figured it would be a good place for us to get organised, discuss and prep for the Evolve World Cup this summer.

I was also seeing lots of excited new eboarders looking for other riders near them to go on group rides with. This forum enabled me to setup a global map of all the users so we could find out if there's fellow riders in your town, get in touch with them and invite them to events. We recently reached over 500 eboarders on the map after launching back in October!

Now we have great content getting posted to both platforms, getting the best of both worlds.

I recently started a university degree in Computer Science in London, so I now study full time as a mature student after working in the UK and the US over the last 10 years. In conjunction with that I run this site as an impartial, independent e-board enthusiast and a few other small online communities. Hopefully as I get better at this CS and programming malarky I'll be able to add more cool features.

I think eboarding is the future of clean personal electric vehicle transport. It's my favourite 'last mile device' and I'm quite excited to see where the industry heads over the next few years.

I hope you guys like the site. I'm looking forward to meeting more of you at group rides and on the forum this year, bring on 2017!

Say hello and post you're own introductory thread here.

  2. Hi Alex,
I like what you are doing. I don't have my board yet but have been lurking for a few weeks on this site. I am inspired to see the evolve community. I am into just having fun with this board. Here in Albuquerque NM there is so much rural terrain and I am looking forward to exploring. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be posting my own travels.
