I read on the store FAQs that you can recharge the battery 1000 times, so if I want to ever replace just the battery for the board will that be an option?

I wonder if anyone has bought a second GT battery yet and stacked them to make a board with monster range.

dont think stacking will work on GTs as they are top loaded, seen a few do it on the old carbon by adding a layer between the deck and cover.

Note that its not 1000 charges but rather 1000 *FULL* discharge cycles of the battery. If you only use half the battery, charge it up full, then use half again that counts only as 1 full discharge cycle.

If you want range on the GT I'd just buy another pack, buy a hard-case enclosure for it so you can throw it into a backpack or something, bring a screwdriver, and when the battery on the deck becomes low swap them out. Problem with running bigger / larger battery packs is that you start to increase the weight. And every pound you can feel carrying the board, believe me!

So what happens are 1000 discharge cycles? Does the battery just not last as long?

Yes, range drops and with that power to an extent. I'm sure most people will be upgrading their boards before they need to replace their battery pack honestly. For comparison Smart Phones are rated between 300 to 500 discharge cycles.

When batteries begin wearing out they will charge up to 100% faster and also discharge to empty faster.
