Asking for advice to upgrade speed

Discussion in 'Bamboo GTR' started by Tony-Toni-Tone, May 5, 2021.

  1. Hello all!

I'm currently riding a 2 year old Evolve GTR bamboo (All Terrain) board. I love it but I would like to make some upgrades and perform some maintenance. Specifically, I'd like to increase the speed (max 20mph). My current reading leads me to believe that I have 7 inch wheels with 66T gears, and that if I want to go faster, I should upgrade to 47T gears. Are there any preferred websites to purchase parts for my board?

Also, are there any other recommended upgrades/maintenance that someone with a two year old board should look into. I'd like to replace the grip tape, but the standard stuff on their website seems meh. I'm going to remove the wheels, trucks, and bearings as advised in this video:

I've had a great run with having to do zero work to my board, but I think it's well past time to get my hands dirty. Any advice or direction on where to turn would be appreciated.

Check out BoardBumpers, they are the best for speed upgrades. Might not have stock just yet as they’re going through ownership transfer, but they’ll be back soon I’m sure!

I recently blew about $100 getting the 42t setup for my 7in all-terrain wheel for my Bamboo GTR. Let's just say I'm not impressed, I called before ordering them to ask what they would do for me top-speed wise, and they basically said I'd get less torque and more top speed. I expected this, then I asked If it would put too much strain on the motors since it's a smaller gear/belt, again they said no they have tested it. 1 week later I got my parts and keep in mind I weigh 130lbs so I'm not burdening the board. Within 1.5 miles of riding the board on pretty flat smooth roads it overheated and switched into pro mode. I was very disappointed and called Evolve to try to return them, but as they wear when you use them they won't take them back. They even claimed I didn't air up my tires enough and thats why my motors overheated lmao. I've had a few experiences with Evolve like this. Me and my brother both have Evolve GTR boards, but we will be buying from another company next time. The company has done my dirty way too many times.

47t with 7” tires definitely should not have been recommended. Too much strain on the electronics. However, BoardBumpers has a 58t option that has been around for awhile, with a lot of success.
