Have you experienced remote dropouts with Carbon GT? So far I've had no problems with remote. I'm interested to know how common this problem is.

I had one time that it didn't properly display the data from the board like speed and battery for a moment however the board maintained controllable via remote.

Don't switch between speed settings during a dropout you could end up in reverse and that hurts.

Snowman – I have experienced a drop out here and there but nothing crazy. I think if I was heavier on the remote trigger that could be a problem. This happened to me yesterday and I noticed it because the board seemed to go slower and went from a higher pitched sound to a lower pitched sound. Instead of trying to accelerate I looked at the remote and saw it wasn’t synced. Once I did that it synced back up in a second and it was back to normal. Now if I was braking that might have been an issue but unless you are changing speed while it is syncing back up I suppose you will just coast. Since I pretty much stay in Fast or GT mode and don’t cycle through the speeds it hasn’t seemed to be a big problem. It has only happened a couple of times at this point. For me the bigger issue has been the auto going to ECO from Fast once you reach a certain level of battery power. So common, not that common but I have noticed it.

I have. Have not hurt myself yet, but I'm cautious. Through this forum I've learned the potential problems and have guarded against by ALWAYS pairing the remote on EVERY start up and avoiding shifting while riding. If I do shift, I always let off throttle, tap ONCE, then visually confirm the change was made on the display, then continue with re-engaging throttle. Since following this I have had no issues. My friend has a Carbon GT as well and did get launched when he kept tapping down, then a few minutes later (Scary, I know. MINUTES) the remote caught up and went into reverse. Fortunately, he didn't break anything and limped away with some bruises and road rash. He did confirm that it showed reverse on the screen even though he had not touched the buttons for quite some time. He has since followed my procedure and has had no issues. WE ARE ALL TEST PILOTS, so ride accordingly.

Curious, what do you mean by pairing the remote every startup? When I turn it on both are already paired. Great tips though - I too just received my board and have avoided shifting!

I've experience problems from time to time doing normal start ups. Most notably big delay on throttle and brake response. Since I started pairing every time I have not seen this at all. Its a kind of a pain, but...

Somewhere on this forum someone posted the RE-Pairing proceedure. I copied it to a note in my phone, so here it is:

    Evolve sync procedure:

    1) Turn on board FIRST. The blue led will begin flashing from the power button.

    2) Turn on remote by pressing and holding right button until EVOLVE logo appears and initial screen is displayed but not showing battery percentage yet.

    3) Then, immediately press and HOLD the left button until the battery percentage screen appears. Making sure to not let go until you see a battery percentage appear.

IMPORTANT Note: Make sure the entire time, you are NOT touching the trigger or the board, so it finds its neutral point.

Even when turning on thereafter before each ride, do not touch anything until pairing is complete and battery percentage pops up on the screen.

I actually started doing it a little different from this as it is a bit faster and still seems to work.

I turn the remote on first, once the evolve logo disappears and the operating screen appears, press and hold left button until the little white antenna icon starts flashing, then turn the board on and wait for it to pair. It will be paired when it shows battery %. If you are riding with other people, you need to do this one at a time or you may pair to someone else's board. The whole thing probably takes less than 15 seconds...

    Cheers,

    -Jim

Is it just the Carbon GT that has the scary dropouts?
I'm wanting to get one of the GT boards. The Carbon is appealing because of the looks and the added range but the idea of dropouts and unexpected happenings scares the sh*t out of me.

I've never had a dropout. Don't shift between modes while riding. That is pretty much the bullet point of this thread. Worst thing that could happen is you inadvertently go from moving forward at a fast rate straight to reverse. Again, don't swap speed modes while riding.

Nope, even the Bamboo has them.
