I am living in a rather small town and get many looks when using my board. Best part is when people in the car slow down to have a good look (I am at the bicycle lanes). Most react with a big smile and give a thumbs up!

In the Netherlands electric skateboards are not allowed but so far I had three experiences where the police must have spotted me but did not pull me over.

I've had 4 experiaces with the police and they all been good so far. 2 just asked about board and where to get, another actually had a go and the last one I was burning down the street in road and he pulled up alongside me and told me to "get on the f@$king pavement" which I duly obliged :p

I think as long as your not being stupid cutting people up or through traffic at speed then all is good. All else fails out run the sucker! :scream::blush:

It's a good thing the guys new the laws pretty well.

There's a good article here breaking down the California Electric Skateboard Law AB - 604.

The wording is so specific with regards to referencing an electrically motorized board vs a motorized skateboard, which are different for these purposes.

Lets break down the California Electric Skateboard Law AB - 604!

    technically....
"So there is is, in black and white. If your board is capable of more than 20 mph, your board doesn't meet the definition of an "electrically motorized board", which means you board is a "motorized skateboard", which this law reaffirms is illegal to ride basically any wheres in public."

Certainly no need to volunteer that information to an officer. Keep a copy in your pocket and be respectful.

Keep it in Eco mode and you're all set on keeping the speed low.

So it remains unclear and depends on how the cops will respond when they spot you.....? Could not hear the exact words used and if it was allowed or not?

Got stopped near Jacksonville Beach for riding after dark in the nice part of town. . . Me and two other guys got a ride back to work so that the rich people didn't have to worry about us hoodlums breaking into their cars.

The officer was pretty cool though. Said that electric boards had to be registered, but there was no way to register them because of the requirements. Just told us to keep the motors off and stick to the sidewalks. . . which we definitely obliged after he dropped us off (at least until he was gone. . . )

Saved us a 5 dollar uber ride I guess. I don't have the pictures yet, but they definitely exist. The officer even took one of all three of us next to his car.

Oh yeah, we all had to ride in the back, the boards rode shotgun with him.

I've ridden by cops in all kinds of places though, including Cozumel. . . I generally give a courtesy kick for show and they generally leave me alone. But apparently stay out of the nice neighborhoods after dark.

oo8moto's theme tune as he blazes off into the distance...(NSFW)

Note: I do not condone ignoring the warnings of officers of the law (especially in america - where they have guns) or necessarily agree with anything said in the above musical video. however, I do love myself a good bit of NWA from time to time. They are a very talented group of musicians, whose songs have both very catchy melodies and thought provoking lyrics.

I do recommend you respect your local plod and ride safely and courteously.

Now where were we Easy E?! Oh yeah...**** the p...

I live in a small town in Ohio that passed a no skateboarding law years ago. Pretty much we aren't allowed to skate anywhere in town on the sidewalks or in the street. I was a block from my house and a police officer that I have had issues with in the past stopped me and threatened to ticket me, but I was just cruising so i don't think he noticed the motors.I really hope they don't try to take my board away if I get stopped again.

I'm a yank from San Diego who lives in Singapore. Probably the most regulated country in the world. From watching the video of the guys getting pulled over I have a few things to say to the So Cal Legends.

But before that you should understand a bit about me... I three Ducati Superbikes and 4 electric skateboards, including 2 GT's. I've had Zero run ins with the law. I take it to the track if I want to go fast. I find the right places to ride my Eboards hard.

    So here's my 2c

    1. If you're going to complain about being pulled over and think you have a right to ride the way you do, then you need to rewind your video. You all blew straight through a stop sign and went the wrong way down a one way street. I don't care if you're riding a tricycle, that's still illegal, Ride like that and you can expect trouble

    2. Showing disrespect to the police in a public video does nothing for the divide between law enforcement and the public they are trying to protect and serve. I've had my run ins with good cops and bad cops. I'm not saying you need to put up with crap. What I am saying is showing a general contempt for the police is very disrespectful...certainly not the stuff of legends

    3. If you were so certain of yourselves you should have had him write you a citation and had your day in court. That's the whole point. If you really think you're right then call him out on it. Just man up "Legend"

    4. Sometimes it's better to just agree to disagree and walk away. It does nothing for the cause of trying to get more access to public spaces for videos like this to circulate. If I were making the legislation in Singapore and saw that video I'd probably be inclined to ban the boards everywhere

    Peace

    TT

    Hello from Italy.
Today I got pulled over on my Bamboo GTX, I was on the street at 20Km/h, the cop took at least 15 second to choose if pull me over or not.
No fine, but the cop asked to carry my board on the shoulder until home.
    First time in 3 months!
In Italy there are no specific legislation for ESK8 and a general rule apply that basically state that you can't use your board in public.
In the future, I'll try to spot police officers before they spot me.

Is very sad that I need to stay away from police for doing absolutely nothing morally wrong.
Enjoy your board and hope that UE come with some law that allow us to ride as a bike can do.
