Bamboo GT deck change concerns

Did someone replace his or her Bamboo decks? A shorter deck would make the board easier to transport. Maybe even a different deck design like a big Land Yachtz modified for wheel and engine clearance.

I'm waiting for my pre-order Bamboo GT but It seems like there’s no electronic component running through the maple deck. Is that right?

Is there some article about this kind of mod somewhere?

No components in deck so you be fine. Seen quite a few single motor bamboos swapped for other land yachtz but not a GT yet!

That would be sick! A good reason to buy a Bamboo GT over Carbon GT is that you could swap board, would love to see anyone who has done this mod.

I was originally going to do it with my cgt but did the figures and was better to do with bgt as a second board. Getting bigger battery made ATM.

How are you going about getting the battery made? Sourcing it from China somewhere? Or made local to spec somehow?

Made locally (Perth WA) with newly released high capacity and 20a load Cells by a company that makes batteries professionally for all different purposes. Voids warranty I originally assumed and have been advised.

Have you considered Hobby King? they sell cheap batteries and if you're handy can wire your own set in series (for capacity) + parallel (for desired voltage) for much cheaper price.

You could also 3d print a battery tray for low cost.

That's a monster! What kind of range have you been getting from it? How many days does it take to charge? ;)

50km round trip exactly with ATs wind and undulating paths. I averaged 25kmh for 2 full hours. No exaggerating.
I've never measured with Street but I predict 70
    I weigh 85kg
Its about 2.2X the BGT battery but I get about 3X the range and much less voltage sag. Maybe the cells are denser or something or less pack resistance. I dont know

I think spacing between the cells, bms and other electronics may have been an issue. But it could have been many things. Just get the battery professionally made I say if you're so keen on extra range. It costs alot more but worth it imo. So many times my extra range has been such a good thing especially with group rides and getting to them and home without riding public transport.

  16. Oh don't get me wrong, I absolutely love what you've done to yours. It looks great and that battery looks professionally made. Also, I do have a question for you, did you reapply clear grip to your deck? I can't tell from the images

Yeah it's a translucent tape. Prob 80% clear. The middle section is uncovered if you look closely you can see the line. Unfortunately there is no such thing as clear grip tape

I have just finished a deck swap. I started out wanting a shorter board for commuting, and I still might end up with that, but after reading this thread I got the idea to use an old longboard deck from a failed attempt to skateboard with my son a couple of years ago. It's a 44" Flying Wheels" pintail deck with a kick tail.

Question....anyone know how old the deck might be considering it has the old school truck bolt spacing?

The tail has just enough kick to avoid the motors, but I run my trucks relatively tight anyway, ( 5mm and 3mm thread showing ).I like the motors hidden as well, and being older, really like the feel of the longboard ride.I couldn't find any adhesive foam yet for the enclosure, so am using a piece of 5mm foam board for now.

It does have a slight camber, and there is a little flex, although I was surprised how stiff it was considering the wheelbase is around 31", but I'm pretty light at 72kg and have a pretty sedate commute, so I'm hoping the enclosure is not under too much stress
