Came across this vlog where this chap gets his electric skateboard run over by a car while making his way to film a shoot for an electric longboard company based out of London, England. BTS Magneto.

(Jump to 1:30 for the incident)

I've never heard of them, seem like a new kid on the block. Specs seem reasonable, very cheap.

    Chinese importer or custom engineered?

    Anyone heard anything about them?

    10-12 mile range
    20mph top speed
    < 7kg
    Quick battery swap

    £500

Looks like this vid is the result of the day trip vlog in the vid above

I've heard of them, but this seems to be a new board from them. They used to sell a Chinese clone sold under the names backfire, lecdec, mellow and some others, the swappable battery is very interesting.

Very interesting. I had no idea.

Seems like you might be right, just found this post when searching for 'Lecdec'

I wonder why they feel the need to rebrand so often...

The swappable battery is certainly very interesting, and oddly enough one of the big selling points of the new Mellow Board, not to be confused with apparently one of the aliases of this board, the 'MelonBoard'

Okay, so, there's no 1st page search results for Lecdec.com even when searching for Lecdec.

When you visit the URL direct, it shows they're now Stary distributors.

And the Stary Board shopify website now ranks for the Lecdec search term at staryboard.myshopify.com

That doesn't instil confidence considering the issues with the Stary Kickstarter.

When I research MelonBoard it looks like they're based in SantaBarbara though, which is odd.

    Melonboard Electric Skateboard

Perhaps these are all regional brand names across the globe for a Chinese distributor?

When I search for 'backfire electric longboard' Alibaba is the first results :joy:

Backfire Electric Skateboard, Backfire Electric Skateboard Suppliers and Manufacturers at Alibaba.com

    Oh dear...

yeah it very strange lecdec was a British company, i have one that is a backfire brand one, its not a bad board, but from what I've read its very hit and miss, there popular with esk8 modders, but i'm not good at that stuff so i got the bamboo GT.

Hi guys, this is my first post I have both the original magento board and the new one with the changeable battery, you guys are right they are basically just re brand Chinese boards but that said both boards are ok but there is no real innovation as both boards are completely different and not like a progression also the build quality of both are decent but I just got my GT Bamboo in Jan and having using the other two for a good few months evolve is def a step up from the other two boards, the fit and finish, the board feels when riding it feels better put together and the the components seem to of a much higher quality and the ride on the GT is like night and day compared to the others which is kinda of whats to be expected but it really is like chalk and cheese. If there is a meet up soon I will bring them along if anyone wants to try :)

    Welcome Nipesh!

Thanks for sharing. We usually try to meet on the last Friday of each month for Critical Mass in London, but there's sometimes other events too, keep an eye on the events section. It usually doesn't take too long for London events to pop up, or you can make your own :)
