In one video Jeff says "safety first" and in another video you see him riding without a helmet and flipflops:

Don't ride like this, especially when a lot of kids are watching.

The Evolve GT is one of the most powerful and most dangerous eboards out there and according to facebook, reddit and forums, no other board caused more injuries than this, so be careful and wear at least a helmet.

Yeah, I've gotta admit, as a personal rule I'd never recommend ever going out without a helmet on for a ride no matter what. I've seen and heard of too many accidents. The potential for error is pretty great.

On the other hand, the most important thing you have to remember to ride well within your own personal limits. For every individual that will vary vastly.

For Jeff, he probably has more boarding hours under his belt than darn near any other person in the world. Which means that cruising relatively slowly on the board he designed in flip flops is likely second nature to him.

Is this a bad example to young riders? Potentially.

Should you always wear safety gear when promoting a product like this? I'd be incline to say yes.

This is an influential new industry on young riders and a good example should be set. Especially when dealing with kick ass boards like the Evolve line that have the capability to kick like a mule and really tear up the tarmac with a hairline trigger pull.

Always ride within your own skill set and be responsible to yourself though.
As a beginner make sure you wear a helmet no matter what, and don't push yourself too hard unless you're willing and prepared to take the tumble....speaking of which I'm sure #EWC2017 registration opens soon :p

And what's with wearing a helmet and not having the strap done up? See it all the time!

Remember kids, if you want to be cool, wear a helmet

Brain trauma is totally not cool :broken_heart:

  5. If I am exploring Fast or GT mode then I wear a helmet no question. For cruising in slow or ECO mode which I tend to stay most frequently it is no faster than my other boards and IMO safer as you have brakes. Agreed though kids, stay safe, potholes kill :)

And cars, and rogue speeding cyclists, and motorbikes. Accidents aren't always your fault no matter how slow you're going :)

Wearing a helmet is always a good idea. Not wearing a helmet is almost always not a good idea. It doesn't matter how experienced you are -- if your board's motor controller suddenly fries, you go flying. If something gets wedged in your belt, you go flying. You have no way of anticipating something catastrophic going wrong and there is a good chance that it will happen someday.

Wear a helmet no matter what, if for no other reason that this activity is NEW. If more people have major trauma because they weren't wearing a helmet on an electric skateboard, then you might have to deal with government cracking down on e-skates or banning them altogether (as they are in some countries). Act responsibly so we don't lose the privilege. As Alex says, accidents aren't always your fault.

They should add the Evolve helmet as a standard or with a special discount when ordered together with your board. Also good promotion of the brand....

They should have different sizes of the Evolve helmet. One size doesn't cut it.
