Hey folks I'm new to this..
If the title didn't give that away you may need to wear a Helmet... :joy: A kid brought me an EZGO wanting it repaired. We have a hobby shop and will work on anything ccool. He did not want to buy a battery so he gave me this board he rode like twice.... I built a battery and the motor was bad so I had o buy one/// EVER since I've been ripping the roads. HOWEVER, I want more. I am looking into the off-road boards. I like the BACKFIRE Ranger 3 but really wanted AIR-FILLED tires. I like the boards with a-arms and shocks but the shocks If like rc cars will be a pain in the ARSE> My 5 b HPI Baja always leak I would like opinions on to buy or build and were to go to look at getting started CHeers Joe

You are relatively young compared to me. Purchased the Evolve GTR Bamboo AT this past spring. A few decades since riding a skateboard of any form. Decades of windsurfing, snowboarding and newbie wind foiler. BMI is still in the low 20s, but aging and the numerous injuries have sort of caught up. Just into carving. Air time on any type of board is a distant memory.

Do have a mtn board with 9"x 2.5" pneumatics. In storage right now. Maker is out of Colorado. ?MBS? Channel trucks with elastomers that can be changed out to riding style, weight. They sell components for diy motorization. Unlike the GTR which is limited to gravel and packed dirt trails, the mtn board can handle rougher terrain at a higher speed. With aging getting lazy. Hauling my butt uphill for +30 minutes for a few moments of gravity fun is.... and body impacts seem to hurt more. Easier to squeeze the remote trigger when pointing up hill on a paved, dirt or gravel road. Plus you can carve while going uphill.

Do wear a helmet. A few too many concussions from the road and mtn bike racing days. And now knee and elbow pads. The 3DO type of pads are real nice in terms of low bulk, freedom of movement. Seem to work fine. At least in the tuck and roll crashes.

I too did windsurfing Semi pro skateboard in the late 70s in the last few moths playing with power kites since my 55 yr old buddy is busting 50 foot AIRS. kiting LOOKS FUN. LOL I also ride street V twin cruisers. and building a dirt bike. MID LIFE CRISIS ? Maybe .. So whats the cost of there boards. I'm more worried about parts replacement sensor motors for braking can not be bought from rc applications so parts is a deal for me.. and manf... all want to upgrade yearly leaving the past customer part less needed to upgrade too. I take care of my stuff.... So it will last. As you.. NO BIG AIRS> just cruzzzzin

esk8 and wind foiling. Pandemic effect and weather (wind) pattern changes. Add retirement with no dependent dependents (unless they do something very foolish) = more free time & extra $$s for toys.

Love the feel of the carve. The heavier G-forces dynamic carving on a snowboard or high speed power jibe on a windsurf board, the "floaty" feeling on a foil or esk8. No more need for real high speeds, rotations and air time. Must be getting too old.

Board is a MBS. Used like most "toys" guessing no more than 10-50% of msrp new. Check out their web store for prices. They sell or use to sell motor mount brackets designed for their proprietary trucks/kingpins. Guessing motor mounting hole options would allow mounting most motors. Then diy a proven battery/esc-motor controller set up.

When the GTR's battery or other electronics go bad will probably turn it into a kick push long board with street urethanes. Hadean is too expensive relative to the M5 (similar specs and performance). Probably go M5 or just live with having to repair the GTR with Evolve proprietary parts. M5 looks to be a bit less "proprietary" when it comes down to parts.

The cells do cost. 4 to 5 bucks each but I bought a spot welder for 35 bucks And built a replacement for the ego..im comfortable working with the li-ons so far.. the bms systems I'm not educated on..since they brake ,charge, etc via hall sensors.. I do not have a background in electronics just knowledge from rc hobbies similar yes but not as Sophisticated ill do some digging though cheers
