Hot motors?

Hey Guys, so I've been playing with a few wheel and gear combos the one I just put on at the moment is abec107s with the stock evolve 15t motor gear and the 32t wheel gear, I thought it felt great as it had the top end speed I was after and still had enough bottom end torque the only problem wasnafter about 8km I felt the motors and they were to hot to hold onto not enough to burn flesh just to hot to hold for more than a few seconds. I weigh about 78kg. So I'm guessing I need to go back to the 38t gear. What do you guys think? I really would like to get some more speed than the 38kmph that I get with the 38t just doesn't seem possible with this setup.
I found the 80 ml kegels the motors run cold, 107s with 38t run quite warm and the 107s with 32t run real hot.

Busterboy - I don't know what the temperature is where you are located but...... I have the standard gears you describe but use the 97mm and my motors run hot too. Nothing to crazy but definitely hot to the touch such that it would hurt to hold it for more than a few seconds. It’s starting to warm up here, I think it will be around 80 today so they should heat up quickly. If I get out today I will check the motors with a temp gun at the end to see what they read. I know my heat sink for the circuit boards runs hot too so I will check that temp as well. Take Care.

  3. It may be nothing, or it may be a sign of a problem. My original motors did this with the 32/97 setup then one became hotter than the other, and the hotter one blew and smoked itself out within days. I would experiment by putting the 38Ts back on and have a good few hours of riding and see how hot they are, use a temp gauge to record and then switch back to the 32T and record. If the 38T setting is higher, then you have a motor problem. Reason being is because with the 38T to 15 T setup, the motors arent working as hard to rotate the wheel with the 6 extra teeth and size. Its not having to spin as fast as it would have to with the 32T. If its the 32T thats higher. It could be just how the motors operate I would just make sure that both motors are roughly within 5 to 8 degrees with each other, and they dont smell like they are burning. If one is a bit higher, you could have a faulty motor.
