Inside the remote, silicon???

I opened up the remote today (the rubber buttons have come loose) and found this white substance on the inside, like silicon. Its rubbery and dry but it is also gathering dust. The remote works fine so it has no effect on operation.

Just curious, dose anyone have any idea what it is?

I have opened three remote controls and all these white tracks were visible. Perhaps the silicone should protect various components from vibrations.

I think the workers that put these remotes together should quit have sex on the job. Come on people I really dont need these in my remote.

That's the dodgiest distribution pattern of silicon spray I've seen on any product, ever. It looks so....organic.

You sure you didn't mod that 1.44" 128x128 TF_LCD display to play some tiny dirty handheld movies on the go and got a bit excited during testing skedaddle?

Is it just really bad use of a glue to hold down the daughter board?

I've opened 2 remotes and never seen any goop like that, the PCB and chips are clean and clear of any gunk.

I'd be worried about that crap holding in heat for the various chips that are covered up and having them prematurely die over time.

Here's a thread discussing the silicone, since we don't know what type it is as I mentioned heat and even corrosion could be negative factors from using it. It appears to secure parts down on the PCB board that possibly come loose from vibration:

"The problem with any kind sealant is that moisture from condensation can get trapped underneath. This can corrode pins and tracks and the sealant becomes a conductive bridge even cause electrolysis and if there are quite a few volts and amps around, a fire if you want!

Resin is my best bet because it is runny and will avoid air pockets."

Whats the white silicone sealant used on PCBs?

I had to send back my first remote because of the white screen of death. I had tried the battery reset by opening it up and there was no sign of this glue.

This remote seems fine except for the occasional drop out, --%, making sure not to gear up or down during this dropout, everything else is good.

I hope the remote is ok in the long term but I may order a back up remote just in case. Evolve Uk are currently out of stock, so I'll keep cruising with this one for now....

that is bizarre - never seen it before - doesn't really look intentional (original pics at top of thread)

Looks like they do a similar thing on the BMS

How many times do I have to tell you? Mustard is not certified for PCB usage Nickleberry.

Only peanut butter and jelly works for PCB&J sandwiches.
