What are Gen1 and Gen2 for Carbon?

I thought the gen1 boards were the early forward mounted motor boards, gen2 was single rear mounted motor and GT were the 2rd gen boards.

Is there any consensus about this? Does it really matter?

It does seem odd that the first carbon board would be a gen2, but maybe that's why they're called carbon and carbon GT?

There's a very good chance I haven't slept enough, and an equal chance that I'm overthinking it. . .

There wasn't really a gen2 carbon although there was slight changes along the way like the battery case from plastic to carbon fibre, motor mounts getting the nice evolve logo and so on.I think people call them gen 2 as the motor was at the back like the bamboo gen2.

I have a friend with perhaps what could be a Gen1 Carbon. It had (he sold recently) different grip tape design (Still genuine Evolve), the centre ridge on top may have been more pronounced? and the heatsink was black vs silver on my gen 2.
Ill see if i can find some pics to compare

Yes there was tweaks along the way rather than a whole next generation of Carbon board officially announced. I have what you was referring to as a Gen1 carbon ;)

Few photos, excuse the bright colours, paint still left on from the last Evolve World Cup party!! ;p

Mods I made from the "Gen1" to keep it in line with "Gen2"

Baseplates (original shown for comparison), Trucks, Bushes, Battery Case :metal:

Generally, it goes like this (anyone, feel free to chime in with corrections):
    • Gen1 (Bamboo), two models = pintail and snubnose (these are the forward facing motor models).
    • Gen2 (Bamboo) = longboard (single rear facing motor).
    • Original Carbon = longboard with kicktail (single rear facing motor) - These are technically what you could call "Gen1 Carbon", but because they run Gen2 running gear, they are commonly referred to as "Gen2", even though they are actually the first carbon model. This also had slight updates throughout its production run, as Andy alluded to.
    • GT (Carbon) = longboard w dual rear facing motors
    • GT (Bamboo) = longboard w dual rear facing motors
    • New "commuter/travel/budget" model (Bamboo) to be launched on Fri 14/4/17 - single GT motor configuration.
