I’m expecting my new Bamboo GTX next week and wondered if the bearings that are fitted are pretty average ? If so are ceramic bearings a worthwhile upgrade on an electric skateboard and any idea which ones ?

  2. the stock bearings that came fitted on my carbon gt are actually quite nice,
considering my experience with team fast eddie bearings that i used to use for my 5th scale rc rigs...

Ceramics are a bit overkill for electrics. For AT the evolve bearings are just fine, there is so much rolling resistance from the tires any inefficiency from the bearings is unnoticeable. For street even ceramics will not be noticeable under acceleration or give you a higher top speed.

For my street setups I've been using Bones Super Reds. They are cheaper than the evolve bearings and are way smoother. But like others will say it won't give you better mileage on the board, or maybe a totally marginal improvement. They definitely roll better though. I notice it when coasting, going downhill, or just kick pushing to start moving. In my normal commuting rides I have a couple opportunities to coast for long distance while going down slight declines, which saves battery.

Like I said - cheaper and they are available on Amazon Prime so you can get em fast too. They are also easier to clean because they only have a seal on one side. I use a toothpick to push the seal out from the back because I suck at prying them up.

I wouldn't use them for AT though, I don't think they would keep the dirt out as well as the Evolve ones do.

I was thinking of trying Bronson g3’s or Zealous bearings as they seem quite pop

Fozzy – I have used ceramics in the past and they are pretty tough and fast rolling but I didn’t find them to be worth the extra money on my non electric boards. So I concur with kcf on what he said and also use the bones reds. The tightness of the belt is also contributing factor for how well the board free rolls. The reds roll smooth and fast and I usually have a spare set that I cycle through. I take out my bearings every dozen or so rides or if I am switching wheels. I clean and re-lube the ones that come out and check if I need to replace any. The dirt from AT riding has me cleaning those bearings more frequently. Enjoy.

I just got a set of the Bones Swiss bearings, which are a step up from the super reds. I was buying another set, and these were only $5 more than the supers on Amazon.

I'm not sure that there will be any discernible difference is speed or roll, but they are supposed to last forever. I'm going to use them with my 107s. I'll report back after breaking them in.

The price on Amazon of $35 is almost half of the retail on the bones site....I'm may pick up a few extra sets at this price.
