I'd say get on the next pre-order, don't think you'll find anyone who'll part with their board. Got on the last pre-order and awaiting delivery..... hopefully soon.

    Figured.

I've had a lot of peers have burned out buck converters so I'm curious if I could get one for science and DIY repair.

You never know, you might get lucky.

The closest thing I saw of someone selling a GT was the guy whose board got run over by a BMW driver in NY which cracked the board. He was going to sell it but then Evolve sold him a new deck. So if anything burns in the board electronically I'm sure you could contact Evolve to buy a new controller and get up and going.

I have seen the Gen 2 boards that are 2-in-1 going up used for sale, but those are not a GT 's

    :)

I watched the video the day it happened. Man that blows. Evolve support helped him out a lot there.

Yeah, but if the turn around time is weeks and swapping a DDPACK or TO263 only takes 2 minutes at the solder station, I'd do both to keep me moving.

Likewise, I physically winced when I watched the footage! Felt so bad for him :(

Would you mind explaining what these are please? Not too up to speed on my electronics lingo!

Below are pictures of the Evolve PCB. The first picture is of a clearly burnt component. Given its proximity to the main power leads and the coil, its probably a buck converter. The person who gave me these photos has had several ESCs burn out the second he powered on the board. He is currently receiving his third replacement now (total usable board time: 0hrs since purchase). While Evolve support continues to fix the problems, it would be a lot easier to just remove and resolder the burnt converter at home.

DDPACK or TO263 refers the the shape and dimensions of the component (much like how one describes a AAA from a AA battery). It's unclear if the STM32F4 Microcontroller (opposite/above) the buck converter was damaged, but that is also pretty easy to replace. Trouble is, the firmware is only available from Evolve.

Was hoping Evolve would put conformal coating on the PCBs to help protect them from water if riding in the rain but it appears they don't. I just bought some coating to do my MetroBoard control boards (they too are not coated) and looks like I'll have to do the same for the GT when that arrives. I ride these boards as my daily work commuter so have to make them as much resistant to water as I can. I blew out my older Metroboard riding it after it rained, water worked up and into the battery box where the control board was, ended up taking a spill over some RR tracks where the board rolled over. That caused water that accumulate in the battery box to splash the control board and corrode / shorting it out.

Thanks for the informal posting! Happy Evolve is fixing the one's burning up, I agree it would be easier to do it at home.

I'm about to pick up a used Boosted Board dual tomorrow. My plan is to create a 12s2p or maybe 12s3p aftermarket enclosure to double/triple the range. Water proofing was on my list. I plan to use silicone caulk to patch up anything that doesn't look watertight - anything used to spray over components feels like a trap for at home or in service repairs.

Cheers for the info Ryerson, keep us updated on your Boosted mod, would be interested in seeing pics of your finished water proofing efforts

Cool on the project! I'm looking to do the same with my 2 older metroboards, combine the two 15 mile packs to make a 30 mile board. I should just go and dedicate that to my rainboard. I ended up buying WheelShields for my rain fenders, they actually work really well! Downside is you can only run 80mm or smaller wheels. Will email them to see if they can make ones to fit 97mm wheels which is ideal for the street.

Wheel Shields - Longboard gadget with 6 powerful features!

Honestly, in rain the Pneumatic tires are best for traction but nobody makes fenders for those, odd, since people who offroad would be mudding and splashing around at times after a good rain soak. A simple commuter bike style fender in plastic would do. Cheap and easy to replace if busted.

Yes, good point on the conformal coating on the PCB and accessing the electronic components if something burns up. Seeing you had component burn up, I don't think I'll do my Evolve. Seems like that part is still in evolution and I hope they get it dialed in over time. I'm very confident in my MetroBoard, he's really good with the PCB/Controller design and reliability. Only time it burned up or failed was when it got wet, the boards out of 4 of them have never let me down due to his part and design. Metro will sell me a new controller if I don't want to troubleshoot my blown out one from the water. The PCB is corroded in many places so going new is the best route. He said I can run the newer one which he sells complete for $150. That's the cool thing with that board that I love, the support, always there and always finding a way to get you back up and going fast and relatively inexpensive. So with that I'm confident spraying my MetroBoard PCB to waterproof it since I don't feel I'll have a future need to access it. You can buy the conformal coating solvent if you do need to get to any area of the board.
