Drive belt fraying.

Hey guys, I've got a drive belt that has started fraying, I do feel a bit more resistance on this motor/wheel. What do you think caused it? I did notice something impacted the truck near the motor plate (as seen in pic) but i'm not positive if that is the problem. I ride fast always and it was present after my last ride. It rode fine and I don't remember any specific events out of the ordinary but the roads do have a lot of dips and speed bumps etc.

    Any help guys? Thanks.

Its just cosmetic, doesn't affect the belt or drive. You can cut or burn those frays off if you like.

Yeah, not much you can do about that, except burn them. It's just from the teeth on the belt grabbing the aluminum teeth on the gear, it's inevitable.

I've probably rode my board no more than 50 miles. Is that normal wear and tear?

I don't know what Evolve considers "normal," but you and I are definitely seeing the same wear. I actually got fraying on my first ride, but after burning the excess, I didn't see too much more after that.

Burned the frayed portion, flipped belt and re-tensioned both belts. Just came back for a ride and it seems fine. Will roll with it thanks!

^ You should measure your ABEC wheel too, possibly their molding is off and a wee bit bigger causing the issue.

Those are flyhweels and they do have good clearance. I am using standard speed ring setup no adjustments.

Honestly I'd run without those covers! I do as well as other vetran riders. The covers are pain, catch rocks, pebbles and debris which wear your gears and belts down super fast due to stress. Also its easier to check you belt tension properly, also to adjust, and to clear out any pebbles lodged in your gears / belt. A good guy from the Evolve GT facebook page put the STL files up online free for 3d printing that are a redesign for rear guard covers that don't block the belts, but do allow you to stand the board on its rear end. When I get time I'll print out a set for myself. I also don't put on the AT covers, another cover that doesn't do much. They won't catch pebbles since their higher up, but I always loose the stupid allen screws that hold them on and hate putting on loctite to secure them properly each time I want to mess with the wheel swap or belt tension adjustment.

Belt covers only work for frontward mounted motors, not rearward ones like the GT. They're mostly there for legal aspects so Evolve can say when a person gets sucked down into the gears from a loose shoelace that they put in the protective measures :)

Yep, feels weird at first with the pulling off, looks kinda odd at first then it grows on you and it just makes sense after riding it in that configuration for some time.
