Which board really is the best electric skateboard? TechGearLab bought 8 of the highest performing models that you can buy today, and put them through a punishing array of tests to see which board came out on top, spending close to 2 months and over 100 hours on the boards themselves, directly comparing them side-by-side.

Check out the full review below and guess which one was the winner.......!

Entertaining article - but nothing on reliability or QA or rider reports so only partially complete.

I'm surprised they didn't complain about the motors being vulnerable to scratching and damaged with the GT. Its really a pain in the butt not having the ability to stand the board on its end. You can see the MetroBoard was scratched on its tail from standing on end.

Another interesting detail, I don't trust the people honestly in this article. Reason being they said that MetroBoard didn't have that great customer service. If you look at every forum, the website of MetroBoard, it has 5 stars and people put that up there as one of the highest quality. So something sounds odd there. Not saying a person couldn't have a bad experience, however, Ilan the owner of MetroBoard did some research since he does not want to leave customers out in the cold and wanted to see if there was an issue he'd missed. Well found one of these guys who did in fact buy a MetroBoard, but Ilan couldn't find one single email what-so-ever regarding the customer having any customer service questions nor had they contacted Ilan / MetroBoard after he sold them the board. Sounds fishy to me personally, I've had nothing but A+++ customer service with MetroBoard. And when they say the motor is low that it gets hit on curbs, I'm like, what? No.... not at all. The bottom of the motor mount can scrape, but so does the damn Evolve with 83mm wheels which they ran on all these boards. I found other odd mistakes / oddities in this article to make me go hmmmm..... And putting the one-wheel in there with skateboards.... what the? Its not a skateboard, its in its own class. That thing shouldn't have been there.

They also didn't go into how the battery meter on the Evolve GT is NOT accurate at all! That caught my attention and was a BIG disappointment for me.

Also, how long did they sustain that 22mph on the GT? They didn't mention that... It doesn't last long and I have the larger battery in the CGT. The MetroBoards I have will hold their same top speed rather consistently across the battery curve / drain. They don't fall off a cliff early on, very early, like the GT does. But they didn't say anything about that..... odd.

Here's another BS line I found them say about the MetroBoard:

"This board actually had decent acceleration, but only having one powered wheel made it feel exceptionally squirrely and uncontrolled in our acceleration test, causing it to lose some favor."

What? A one wheel drive system making the board feel "exceptionally squirrely"?? That sounds like a pretty much of a stretch of a statement if I've ever heard one! And "uncontrolled"? If they want an uncontrolled board they need to test my Evolve Carbon GT. If you're on dry pavement, you're totally fine. I've also setup my MetroBoard slim to ride in the rain, I ran 80mm wheels, and NEVER have I experienced "squirrely" or felt like the board was "uncontrolled". Something's really odd about this review. Any place for a board to become squirrely and uncontrolled is in the rain, and that's not where I want to ride my GT for that I'll end up flat on my face from it being uncontrollable and squirrel.

Makes me wonder if all the negative things they talked about the other boards were really about the Evolve GT. Uncontrolled, squirrlyness, bad customer service, and they even had remote disconnects / dropouts on another board, that really sounds like everything I've been experiencing with my CGT and the process of trying getting Evolve to "properly" fix the damn thing. No response back at all to multiple customer's emails stating the board they just did an RMA on is not fixed, and that the customer wants a fully functioning board or their money back. What type of customer service is that?

so, yeah, you know what type of reputation the media has these days, they're as good as second hand toilet paper I tell you.

While I agree most of your post has merit on it's own, I think this point is getting more blurred recently.

I've noted there's a member of this forum that was seriously considering both an Evolve and OneWheel and ended up going for the one wheel. Initially I was in the exact same boat as you, I figured how on earth could someone compare them as they're so different, but to many users, they may not be that different.

The truth is they're both pretty viable last mile devices, and no matter how clunky it may appear, the one wheel is a pretty sweet last mile personal transportation device. The competition may not be obvious, but it's real, especially when there's doubt about the first choice 'real' electric skateboard device, for whatever reason.

Gosh I love this market, so much going on and a lot to talk about :)

That article is unfair. They compare acton blink with evolve gt. If they compare the acton qu4tro instead the conclussion would be opposite.

You mean the Acton Qu4tro that doesn't actually exist yet?

I'm not saying that quatro won't be good, or a contender.

But it's also not fair comparing items you can buy today to items that aren't yet in production.

So you compare a Ferrari with a honda civic?
Comparisons must be done with similar boards.
There's no way a mere blink can be compared to a gt. Not by far.

I guess e-boards are clearly a new category and they just compared what was available at the time. Next to this a personal preference also plays a role.

When you want light travel and a good last mile board compared to all terrain options everything changes in the comparisons

    I wouldn't compare like that.
I think two different lists would be more accurate and fair.
    The best high-end boards 2017
Evolve GT, enertion raptor 2, torqueboards rocket, acton qu4tro..... etc
    The best light boards 2017
    Yuneec ego 2, genesis, stary,koowheel,blink.....
I hope I explained my Point properly now.

I like to compare products that actually exist. The Acton Quatro isn't available to consumers and won't be until later this year, how is the article writer supposed to compare it if they can't get a hold of one to test?

They can only fairly compare real products that they can ride and test.

Just because the GTs and the Blink would likely be in different categories, you can still compare them and highlight the various pros and cons of one vs the other. That's exactly what the article did.

If you insist on that fact...why include a discontinued product from 2 years ago in 2017? lite has been for sale last weekend for 200$ and blink is at clearance status.
did the author use the yuneec 1? no, he used the yuneec 2.
The Blink s and s2 are ready. Some people tested them. If the author didn't have this year's acton boards blink just should be out the the comparative.
There's many other boards worth being compared. I won't change my mind. That comparative is unfair. I would do it different.

They tested boards that are available for purchase or they could get access to. Boards someone can buy and have shipped to them after reading the article. Seems a pretty fair criteria for a roundup to me.

The market isn't huge, there aren't 100 boards out there to choose from.

It's not unfair as you've phrased it, it's just a roundup of a selection of boards they could get their hands on. I'm pretty sure most readers could go through the article and figure out what suits them best based on their budget and requirements, disregarding those thay don't fit those requirements.

What would be unfair if they compared production boards and unreleased products. What are readers supposed to do if they decide the untested quatro is the winner because it has the best specs on paper? Not much use to someone who wants to buy something today so they can actually start riding.

I'm sure in a few months there will be a new article with the latest boards - once you can buy and test them.

We can discuss this till the world is over if you will. But i will not change my mind. It's not a matter of pride on my side, i can easily admit i am wrong. This time there's no way.
That comparative has put under the spotlight 8 brands for this year's comparative.
Acton has been pointed as the worst overall performance score.
The subject of analysis is a DISCONTINUED board in the very same year they are releasing to the market 3 new models.
    That fact is absolutely undeniable.
The comparative is dated feb 10 2017
Acton has done a test ride of their boards accordiing to their vlog
    Dates: Sat 1.28 – Sun 1.29

    Time: 9:30 PM – 6: 00 PM

Location: Pier 70, 420 22nd St, San Francisco, CA 94107

Hundred of users have tested in January this year's Acton boards. Looking at their faces i am not sure those are the worst overall boards for 2017.
The facts speak for themselves. Acton shouldn't be in that comparative with a discontinued model. Which makes it UNFAIR.
Now mister alex you can keep discussing with me about this for ages. The result will be the same: a boring thread that no one will read and two dudes that will not change minds.
One last thing, I do not own any Acton board, i am not affiliated or endorsed by Acton inc. I'm not associated with them in any way and i don't really care about that brand.
    regards
