Evolve G.T Bamboo or Carbon? (2in1)

  1. I have been looking at different kinds of boards for the last 3 months and I have gone from boosted board to inboard m1 and now I have found about evolve G.T boards and I am hooked... except for the fact that I don't know which one to get...

Let me start of by saying I have been saving up money over the summer and it's not easy saving up as a 16-year-old doing his Junior cert.

As far as I know the difference between the bamboo and carbon is the distance it can go in one charge and I don't care about the stiffness or flex. the bamboo can go a maximum of 35km on eco on smooth street with street setup and the same with the carbon except it will go 50 km.

I will be mostly going in Fast or GT mode and I also have a few hills near me which will make the battery go approx. 25km-bamboo and 40km-carbon. and I want to get the most out of 1 full charge.

Another thing is that the GT bamboo is not listed for pre-order or sale on the U.K website since I live in Ireland.

Let's say the Bamboo will be available for purchase and or pre-order and I could get it by Christmas considering its price (1,500 Euro ). Or I could wait until February and get a G.T carbon instead but That will be after my Mocks (a big test before the Junior cert) and I kinda don't feel like saving up and waiting that long...

So as you can see I am in a tricky situation :(

  2. Hey Dom, I actually got a Inboard M1 for Christmas last year but after all the delays I went shopping and found out that Evolve had a board with a range of 50km, so I immediately canceled my pre-order and ordered the Carbon GT 2in1.
I must say, have the boards about a month and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I switch between street mode an AT mode a couple of times and it carves like nothing else, but the AT wheels ride very comfy.

So if you are not sure what to chosen, I think the Bamboo will be a bit more comfortable as the Carbon is stiff.
If you don't know if you should go for the AT, street or 2in1, you can always order the other kit.

So think of what kind of tracks you will want to ride and pick on of the wheel setups.

    Have fun choosing.

    Hey Dominik!

Welcome to the site bud! Great to see a fellow Irishman here ;)

My family is from Co. Monaghan originally, I still have close relatives in Galway though! Awesome arts festival.

If distance is your main priority for ride time I'd definitely go with the Carbon, that thing is a monster when it comes to range.
If your main priority is to get one in your hands asap and get another couple of months of riding in, then go for the Bamboo, because it's an incredible board in itself, with range to smash lots of other boards even without the same battery as the Carbon.

I'm not sure who deals with the distribution to Ireland. Maybe Andy knows?

Alternatively Marc at Evolve UK might be your best bet to get accurate order dates for either board.

I'm curious as to what your thoughts were on the Boosted in the end? Especially compared to M1.

    :megapunch::megabeers:

Cancelled my carbon order and got the bamboo gt, no regrets, bamboo is not that flexy at all as stated, right in the middle, perfect comfortable ride, everyone is talking about range form 30-19, man with carbon, you will not ride 30 miles a day, your legs will get numb, carbon is stiffer.

Don't forget it depends which setup you'll be riding with the most. If you use AT wheels for example it's rated at 15km/9miles (Bamboo GT) and 30km/18.5miles (Carbon GT) which might affect your choice.

I've gone through the same dilemma and ended up choosing the Carbon GT as I'm living in a hilly area and will be running the AT setup, didn't want to risk running out of juice.

I thought that the m1 and boosted were pretty much identical in value main difference being the battery swap and stiffness and if I would have had chosen the inboard m1. but both of them would not be delivered till after February due to them still shipping to pre-order-ers and i thought that the distance with them both being too short. the only downside I see with G.T is that they are not waterproof and as you know Ireland get's a lot of rain.

The wet does suck. All e-boards have a while to go before we manage to eliminate that nuisance!

So some of you may have seen a post that I have done before where I ask your guys opinion on the Bamboo 2in1 or Carbon 2in1.

Well I have decided to go with the Carbon except it will be with the street version and I will get the AT conversion kit later.
    Thank's for the feedback :)

I am also hesitating between the two. Any other feedback ? Only the battery changes right ? So if money is an issue I would better be getting the bamboo gt right ?

So yeah range is main difference other than the deck. Carbon had about an extra 10 miles. Bamboo deck has medium flex, carbon l stiffer so more stable at high speeds.

Imo bamboo better suited to street wheel, Carbon AT wheels. Both are shed load of fun so I'm sure be happy with either :p:punch::thumbsup:

I went with the bamboo gt at, only riding for fun so want worried about range. The board is amazing, so comfortable with bamboo deck and combination of AT wheels..... forgot to say I bought the 2 in 1 but can't see me changing from AT setup, it's superb!!

I was going to get the Zboard 2, but when I the Carbon GT came out I couldn't resist the power it has and the versatility to go on and off road. I live blocks from the beach, so I have dirt trails and paved trails for miles of Evolved fun.

    I got the Carbon GT.

I live just down the road from Evolve in Australia and was fortunate enough to spend some time on both GT Carbon and GT Bamboo before deciding between the two.
The differences in batt life are stated so I will just comment on the ride.

The Bamboo is slightly shorter and does have some flex so you can carve tighter turns, definitely more lively, although if you loosen off the trucks on the Carbon your ''almost there''.

I was concerned about reports of being beat up on long rides due to the stiffness and harsh ride of the Carbon, I have ridden many kilometres with both street and AT wheels and don't have any issues with this and I'm 55 years old.

I went with the Carbon for Batt life, the look of the board and I ride mostly push bike tracks so more long carving turns.

Hi Alex, another Irishman has just entered the realm! I chose Bamboo myself, am currently waiting on arrival. I was thinking about Boosted originally too Dominik. Ya'd get more practical use out of AT in Ireland man. Our roads are SO bard over here! Will update you when I get my hands on my Bamboo GT for better advice.

    Nice one! Welcome David :)

Yeah, likewise in London, it's bump and crack central. AT is the way forward. When's your Bamboo due to arrive?

Thanks man. I've been checking the tracking everyday and my guess is it will arrive this week. In pure anticipation, I've been watching so many videos and reading forums/articles/reviews about this thing that I think I could build one myself now :) I've got to say though, I was a little concerned about the legality of this beast on Irish roads and public places so I contacted Gardai and asked em about it. They didn't seem to be bothered by it, unless they see me do something irresponsible of course. Will play it cool any go easy when I see em anyway. If I get any hassle, I'll make my point that electric bicycles have been riding around Ireland in the last few years un-bothered so why would they view me any differently. It's all a grey area over here it seems. What's it like over in UK? You guys get much hassle?

Interesting... I too am waiting on my order, CGT. It is difficult to find out the legality of these electric boards here in Ireland but as you said it seems to be a bit of a grey area. I think the Gardai have better things to be doing then going after us. Hopefully, with responsible riding and due care we can make this something a lot more popular in Ireland.

As long as your sensible and not terrorising pedestrians, I can't imagine you'll get trouble from anyone. I'd say it's probably the vehicles you need to worry about more than the pedestrians or Garda.

I generally only ride mine around the parks in London. I also take it to the Critical Mass events once a month, where we blaze a path through the streets of Central London, essentially taking over the road so there's no traffic to contend with.

I did get stopped by a few coppers when I was lagging behind when a group of us were riding one day. He said technically I shouldn't be riding it, but then saw the rest of the Evolvers heading off into the distance and said "Bugger it, off you go" and sent me on my way

Andy commutes on the road into Canary Wharf pretty much every day that the weather is good though, and I the only issue he's ever had is from the private security on Canary Wharf itself - but they can never catch him :joy:

I'd like to think so but it's all about who you meet I guess. Absolutely. These things are going to take off over here. Keep me posted on your CGT arrival Skedaddle, would be cool to meet up when I get mine too.

Alex, definitely. I plan on using mine for short commutes in Dublin city, the route will be traffic heavy so I'll have to be careful. Hahah brilliant, they aren't gonna catch you on foot/bike or segway so GOOD LUCK LADS :)
