Battery cable / BMS connector / UART protection..

When I first got my Carbon GT I had some issues with cut outs - it turned out to be the motor controller which was replaced quickly by Evolve UK. One of the fixes we tried first before the motor controller arrived was to check all the cable connections were secure as it was suggested that if they were loose or under pressure at the BMS then it could cause problems. When I opened up the board I found that the battery had shifted forwards towards the motor controller and the BMS / UART cable was pressing up against the ridge on the floor at that end of the battery tray... see pic for a simple fix to keep the battery away from that ridge and hence protect the cabling coming out of the BMS - thought I would share this after all the recent posts about fragile cables. I chose this method rather than tape the battery in place as I also put a thin layer of foam underneath the battery which helps absorb some vibration and isolates the battery from any sand which gets into the compartment and acts like sandpaper between the casing and the battery. It has to be said however that my girlfriend wasn't thrilled about me trimming the end off her yoga mat to do this fix with. o_O:scream::)

I recieved the latest batch of carbon gt boards. With the new remote. I see the battery pack in the board has adhesive near the rail edges and a smothering of hot glue around the connections coming out of the board, so on a new board just there may be no need to pack with foam. But it is definelty worth checking under the hood and cleaning it out. Sand and debris go everywhere and check in here to make sure it looks clean and no bits of sand floating around

The cables i was talking about a while ago are actually the HAL ports, one for each motor, I would suggest taping those to add strength, as they are still very thin and the red wire is too short. Nice work on the rest, should add some security so things don't shift.

Liquid electrical tape works well for the small wires and plugs. Build it up with a few applications after each 5 min dry.

I also used thin closed cell foam all the way around the battery enclosure. (Lining up with the whole battery cover edge)
It stops all sand and water getting in. Compresses down to form a seal.

Good call on sealing the battery compartment, not sure how sand finds its way in there but a thin layer of foam around the edge of the compartment should cure the problem. :)

My board shipped with foam around the lid, glue over all the cables and through external ports! Will update a picture later when I get a chance.

Interesting idea with this cell foam. Can you take a pic of what you used?

Its probably 5mm wide and 5mm high when new and uncompressed. Sticky ahdesive back, Closed cell foam. It really stops the sand getting in there. I would say buy 1.5 metre more than enough to go all the way around and meet at only one point.

Excellent. That actually looks way better than I thought it would. If you didn't mind i think i will incorporate this on my own board. Nice job man :)

Nice solution. Where can I get that? Whats it called? A link to eBay or amazon would be appreciated.

    Cheers

I got it from Clark Rubber. A foam supply chain.
