Got thrown off the GT, board took off without my command, petition to Evolve to fix remote

I think we need to get a petition going ASAP for Evolve. I just got thrown off my GT taking it easy along a beach walkpath on my way to work. Had my backpack filled with my work goodies so it was loaded. Lots of people around, and I was respecting them and going slow. Then out of nowhere my GT did a full acceleration! I didn't touch the trigger to accurate and was holding a steady 10mph speed. With that the board shot out, I went back,my rear hand down and my backpack ended up pulling and dislocating my shoulder. Glad it was only that. People were stunned asking if I was OK. I was hurting of course but had to assess the damage to my body. I grabbed the board it didn't hit anything. People asked if I needed help, I said no. Started to turn around head back home since my shoulder was locked, couldn't move it, Then I felt it was just dislodged so I endured the pain, moved it around and it fell back into position. Besides the road rash on my hip and my dislodged shoulder, that is all I can believe happened as collateral damage of this issue.

My guess is it had some sort of bluetooth / frequency interference that confused the remote and accelerated it. I am for darn certain I didn't accidentally move the trigger, I know how sensitive this board is already. Even if I did, that's an issue too that needs to be addressed.

I'm not a person to sue, it gets people nowhere. Also Evolve is a company that's built from passion and the ground up, the owner and his wife sold their house to fuel their passion and this great board. What I do want is Evolve to fix the remote and make it safe, there's a serious issue here. I don't want a life loss which can happen if this board did this on the streets with cars and traffic.

Who's in? Anybody have any contacts? I'll also write Evolve with a mail regarding my incident.

I don't want this to turn negative, only positive. I love the board and its a great leap in innovation. However making it safe needs to be safe and controllable for all ages needs to be a #1 priority. I'm not comfortable letting someone else ride this wild black stallion the way it is. Actually that would be a fitting image for the top grip tape art. Let me know if anyone finds something like that :)

I'm glad you weren't more seriously injured Dennis. Evolve does now have a representive account on this forum. It's not an official support channel, however if you tag them someone at EvolveHQ will read your post.

It does seem like there may need to be some deeper investigation in the recent remote connection/frequency issues.

Without knowing the exact behind the scene details of exactly how the remote and board pair and communicate I'm not sure what the best way to troubleshoot it would be.

Well if they need testers in the field who are passionate about the awesome board Evolve has created, count me in. I think they could round up a good bunch of people here on the forum who're dedicated to see EvolveHQ succeed.

I'm going to talk to my hardware engineer who works professionally in the wireless arena, including bluetooth to see what he believes is happening with the remote.

I also can't say if its bluetooth interference or possibly a flaw with the potentiometer (trigger hardware). I would have thought interference would have just cut out rather than to accelerate. Last night my remote was odd as well now looking back, I wanted regen but it never did regen. I blew past a stop sign and couldn't stop, I had to make a sharp right to avold going out in the intersection. I coughed it up to typical drop-outs, but it wasn't a drop out, the remote was still talking to the board, I could feel the regen, but it wasn't accepting my input to give 60-80%. I didn't want to give 100% since if it then got the message it would have thrown me on my face. Also last night I let off the trigger, it kept accelerating. I didn't stop accelerating for a couple of seconds. Something was a-miss So another interesting datapoint.

Now looking at these signs, I'm going to shelf my board until diagnosis is performed. Sucks. But it is not safe and something is not working properly. On the bus heading into work with the board, will be riding this horse back home to work and back home in slow / eco mode.

I haven't had any problems with my remote. Is this something that has to do with the workers putting them together. Like one unhappy worker. I worked a factory when I was young and most of them just don't care if it's perfect.

I don't suspect anything like that unless you have solid proof. I've worked in electronic consumer devices and haven't seen anything like that.

I'm sure its isolated to a hardware / firmware issue. Its hard to catch this in QA unless you have large samples to test with. Smaller the test sample, the higher defects get out or missed.

I have confidence in Evolve's QA process as the exist. Seeing the checks the do before the board is shipped and doing a ride-in test before its shipped is a very proactive action for a company to do. I also work in QA (20 years) in software/electronic hardware so I understand this part very well, as well as the challenge to catch as many defects and address them before the product reaches the customer. Its a challenging responsibility and know products are almost never 100% defect free unless its a simple closed ended system with no black boxes, which is the unknowns where you don't have any insight how things will work or suppose to flow in terms of the code and functionality.

But I do stress that if anyone has issues with the remote to contact Evolve and describe in a polite non threatening message about the behavior.

Should I have just said nothing. I wasn't going there to spred yer cheese. I'm offering other ways to look at the problem. I'm not trying to put down evolve. They are the best thing to happen to me in a long time. The small amount of time I could ride my gt before the snow was awesome.!!! Being a Fresno isn't necessary.

I'm doing to do some debugging on the remote with my hardware / electrical engineer at work. So early next week. Going to inspect solder points between the potentiometer and the PCB as well as to see how clean the signal is both with acceleration / deceleration outputs from the trigger / potentionmeter.

Remember I'm the one the ask why people ask questions they can get all the answers from the site they got there board from. To many opinions would sucking I think.

I didn't take your comment as negative, I just think its highly unlikely and didn't take it as putting anyone or company down. Hard to tell people's tone/emotions though email/type. Everyone's opinion and suggestions help all as long as we try to stay positive, good to be critical, but not offensive generally speaking :)

Thanks for your input as well as others.

I think the power curve needs to be smoothed out. I have already posted about my first ride impression and the initial power surge is really a "bug" IMHO. Just look at power tools. The nicer ones have a smooth start motor function. The cheaper ones just have a power switch and any other lights on the same circuit dim a bit. Obviously, the smooth start is better but is a bit more expensive.

A skateboard needs the smooth start function. I just cant believe this doesnt have it on FAST and GT modes. It does seem to have a smoother function on SLOW and ECO. I havent seen anyone else mention it, so that is why i am harping on it.

I think with smoother power, your body would have more time to react, even if the trigger were slammed full throttle, or a remote glitch. There is no purpose for having instant torque down low in any mode. Am i missing something here?

Right, that's wrong nomatter who you are. Any type attacks. Interesting situation we have in the US right now, both parties are guilty of racial attacks. But not to digress, PM me if you ever have time to have an open minded political discussion. Its good for everyone if you have an open mind.

The only thing that's wrong is you have to eat American cheese now instead of that delicious Swiss alternative ;)

I love America (I'm half American), but damn they need to up their cheese game :p

I look forward to hearing about anything you may or may not find

America's biggest import is cheddar from England. The orange stuff that gets it's orange from tree sap.
    From what I've read.

The way this turned makes me feel like I'm on Reddit. :-D

I sent EvolveUSA a constructive email detailing my experience with the remote as well as Adam who helped me with the purchase. Great guy. Should I email EvolveHQ or do you think USA will escalate it to HQ? I don't want this swept under the rug but rather investigated properly, and a safe resolution if in fact there are some defects surrounding the rider's safety.

From now I'll most likely hush up and keep the communication going with Evolve, but will give limited updates so not to impose on Evolve so they can have a fair look to figure out if this is a real issue or not, and if so, what corrections need to be put in place.
