dumb question

    Hi All,

I picked up a new bamboo gtr over the weekend, just getting use to it, not really experienced much with longboards and the turn curve, carving up the pavement is pretty cool. I have street setup with the standard black 97mm wheel size.

I find often I need to pick up the board and maneuver it around when I'm so used to scooping up by kicking the kicktail on a normal board, this thing though is impossible to do and it's heavy as all #$I#.

Is there a cool way to be able to pick these boards up when needing to get around some nasty looking corners and nasty looking potholes?

    Cheers

I suppose there is no cool way,...

Though I now roll back-and-forward to take a sharp turn. To go over a footpath, I just ride along until I come across a hip low enough to ride on/over.

Going over train tracks is scary, I can ride over them, the wheels (97mm) are just large enough to do so, but figure it's really not worth the knock on the board so i pick the board up from the motor end and roll the front over. A bit awkward.

I find going over those plastic strips they have layed out over the footpath at bus stops super unpredictable to judge going at speed. The front sways one way while the rear sways the opposite. The faster you go over the more exaggerated the sway becomes - pretty scary - I think they have them to help guide the blind. Funny thing is, if I ride over them using a normal skateboard I don't get any swaying left/right just straight over at any speed. Could have something to do with the truck design on the evolve.

  3. My personal stance is to dismount ( while still moving) toe drag from under the board to force a turn, hit the throttle until it bounces over or goes around the obstacle(s). Throttle control will cause the board to drift and gain traction when decelerating. Then jump on while the board still moving and off into the distance I ride. I tend not to pick my board up if I don't have to.

If you do have to pick it up, jump off let the board kick in front of you, slip your toe under the motors and hit the brake (locking the motors and transferring momentum) and give it a good knee lifting pop and flick and the back of the board. It will jump to waste height.

Pull/push it at that point with the front trucks on the ground

    -or-

Simply master the art of the one motor grab after you pop it to waste height. This will cause the board to rotate. If you use the momentum of the board from your pop and give the motor a good 90° elbow pull you can easily grab the board with the other hand, or if you're quick let go of the motor and grab the middle of the board as you pin it against your body.

Man, here I was thinking there nothing to it. But now that I'm typing this, there is a lot of physics going into a good board pop.

    Hope this helps!

I ride a Carbon GTR all terrain tires. So my new way to pick up my board is to slide my foot under just behind front trucks. I pull with my knee and foot and lift board high enough to grab the front axle. Your deck is lower but shoul have room for your foot. I saw this method by a You tuber who has lots of regular skateboarding. Watch out for deep stones, pebbles, or gravel. My all terrain tires get real crazy in that stuff. Put me down once.

Certainly does help! Wouldn't mind seeing it on the tube...
