  1. but isn't it just a firmware update as the hardware of the remote doesn't change?

  2. the remote stays the same right?

Not if its burned into a chip and they don't have any way to reflash them. You have to use up your old inventory and then transition into the new. Good practice to have a way to reflash but cheaper if you don't. If you feel your design is solid and don't need to make any more changes then your really don't need it.

  4. Yes thats it would be awesome if you could just plug it in your computer and update it

Yep would be cool and its possible to use the USB as the serial port / binary channel to reflash. But what ends up happening for a small company is that you now have to support this path for the user. Always trade-offs no matter which way you go.

So I picked up my carbon GT today charged it up and took it for a ride. It has the new updated remote and it works very well to be able to upshift and downshift. I am very surprised that 40 ks an hour doesn't actually feel fast for me then again I've been a skater all my life and I'm 40 years old so maybe it's that too haha.

I have the new remote and shifting between modes is great, I couldn't imagine riding any other way. There is a bit of lag between shifts, and you have to release the trigger to shift, so going from Eco to fast requires , push button, release trigger, then rengage trigger.

I do find I have connections issues with the remote going through me to reach the rear of the board, as I ride Goofy and hold the remote right hand. So the remote has to be behind my back a bit or even switch hands, but when it doesn't connect it doesn't jolt or crazy stuff like others claimon other forums it just coasts freely.

I am 6 foot 90 kg. I would imagine a rider being 70kg would get so much acceleration and range out of it!

I sk8 goofy too, all the best skaters do! :p If you hold remote in right hand but keep it low don't raise above your wasit you should find its fine

this should not be an issue, distance for bluetooth should be at least a few meters for a board, perhaps the bluetooth protocol or type should be fixed or changed, even if you are 6 foot or ride goofy, it should not allow the connection to degrade to the point of being non responsive. Do you know what type of bluetooth type the boards use?

If we can get RC planes and drones to fly without issues from remotes, we should be able to have decent stable connections for a fast skateboard I think ;)

What's that setting you had me deactivate or change Andy when I was having cutouts on my older Carbon? It's like runaway mode or something to stop it from shooting off into the distance forever if you lose the board? Can't remember what you called it. It changes the range for which the remote is supposed to maintain signal with the board?

I'm regular, so left foot forward, but also left handed, so the remote is always out in front. Changing that remote setting really helped.

for the older boards I think there was a "long range / short range option" if i am remembering correctly.

Yeah, pretty sure that's what I'm thinking of. Is that not applicable to the new remotes?
