    Hi Forum Folks,

    Anyone got any tips?

I just received my brand new board, and after a brief test - it was working but was almost out of charge - I set the v2 remote & the board on to charge for 4 hours.

When I took the remote off charge & powered the remote back up it froze and I have not been able to do anything with it since. Its stuck as you see it in the image below.

It won't go into pairing mode - pressing the pairing button for a time does nothing.

Its powered up, displaying battery full, no antenna symbol, but will not respond to any button presses. Its stuck in powered on state: I cannot power it off even.

Pressing and holding, nothing works. The only way I can get it to do anything is by plugging in a charge cable connected to a USB wall wart and the blue power button glows slightly red.

Literally NOTHING works. No button pressing or combination there-of, including pressing-and-holding, dancing a jig, nothing at all will make it do anything.

Any thoughts? I'm looking at trying to find a tiny weeny screwdriver to take it apart but that way seems madness. :-( IMG_1263.JPG

Update: I got a response from the Evolve team here in Queensland via email, and they called me. Also overnight the remote finally powered itself down, presumably after the battery went dead. So this morning on finding it powered down, I put it on charge and was able to get 10 minutes on the board before I had to head off for work.

The board was working but there were a number of dropouts. The current lines of inquiry I have about these are:

    1) The response from the Evolve guys which has instructions for resetting the brake lever on the remote
    2) Instructions I have found on line about twisting the wires in the motor compartment to reduce inductance/cross-talk
    3) Using it when there's no computers & wireless gadgets/signals around
    4) Trying the controller when its had more charge
    5) Buying a new controller

    So....

    1) I have tried a few dozen times to do the trigger level resetting but cannot get the remote to go into the correct mode. I can get the Product Id screen, but any tap on the button causes it to go back to the home screen.

    2) I'm going to need a lot of tools & know-how that I just don't possess, but if I can get a friend to help this might be possible.

    3) Going out to local paths outside before messing with the board is easy enough to do & I will try this in future.

    4) Again, trying to do this as much as possible. I don't think the controller is accurately showing its charge on the display.

    5) I'm beginning to be very suspicious of this controller - I know folks often have two in case of needing a backup in the field.

    Will update.

    1. Once you are in the product screen press the power button twice fast and the middle button 4 times fast

    2. Don't do it. If it's under warranty they should offer to have the board ship for repair. Email/Call them, it is also helpful to record it and send them the video.

    3. See #2.

    4. See #2.

    5. See #2. They should replace the defective item for free under warranty.

Move quickly, you only have 7 days for return if they won't offer any repair or replacement.

"In the unlikely event of a defect, Evolve Skateboards USA warrants to the original user that our Evolve electric skateboard shall be free from all defects in material and workmanship for SIX MONTHS from the date of purchase. Evolve accessories are covered for a period of 30 days. "

    Thanks for these tips.

I got out on the board today and got probably 20 minutes of good operation before all the drop-outs & faults started again.

The remote trigger resetting is a no-go. I've watched the video, and tried everything with the pressing of the buttons - seriously, this double-tap of the power button just does not work.

I know folks are sitting there thinking "she isn't doing it right" - I know what I'm doing and I'm just about ready to throw thing thing across the room. Once in the product screen ANY touch of the power button instantly takes you to the home screen. Doesn't matter how fast you do it, or if you instantly press 4 taps of the mode down button.

I'm convinced the remote is borked. It just does not work properly.

Update: I have had an email back & forth with the Evolve guys here in Queensland, and also a phone conversation. They seem pretty good, and are at least recognising how frustrating this is.

I have organised to have someone do some work for me, to take the board down to the Gold Coast - an hours drive south - wait while the board & remote are fixed/replaced or whatever; and then bring it back. This is costing me $180 to pay for this fellow to drive down there for me. I can’t leave my job for a day to drive down there - and I don’t have a car anyway.

Paying $1800 for an item that doesn’t work, and then the only way to fix it is to shell out another $200 is pretty frustrating.

At present it seems the shop is convinced that recalibration the trigger setttings will fix the issue. I’m doubtful, and I am very suspicious about how often being a built up area seems to mean the board doesn’t work. But maybe they’re right, we’ll see.

Anyway we’ll find out tomorrow what happens with this.

I've been back on the GT Carbon for a week now after some repairs by the Evolve folks down on the Gold Coast. The below is from the guys there, who I must credit did a great job of finding the faults & fixing it, for free, and throwing in a nose guard for my troubles:

They replaced the remote internals and also the board battery. I also through in a nose guard for you :)

Service: CGT ST, R2 Remote, T-Tool and Manual - Concerns: Remote drops out frequently, connection issues. Remote intermittently registering input, replaced internals, reset triggers. 3 cells down static and under load, replaced with new battery, tested 2km, testing well.

I have had one or two very minor failures in pairing but only when in the city, and one of those in my office where there's a lot wifi signals.

Note I that also had a ride with a friend who has the same board and we had no problems with my controller & hers cross-talking at all.

OK, I’m thinking this is fixed now. I’ve had a couple of weeks of really good riding now, and no problems - even in the city. There is still some lag between the controller & the board but I think that is just what everyone else normally gets. Basically I’m pretty happy with the board now & having a lot of fun commuting to work on it.

    Good result!
