Anyone find that the Abec 107's cope with most rough tarmac/roads where 97's can't ?

Hi all ,I'm going to be buying an evolve GTX street in the next couple weeks and while I'm not bothered about riding off road or down dirt /gravel tracks I'd like to think I can ride on most roads with out issue. The GTX street as most of you know comes with 97mm wheels and I was wondering if I purchased a set of the Abec 107's as a beefy backup ,it would allow me to be able to ride on most tarmac surfaces without to many dramas ? Just wondered if any fellow 107 owners could share their views .
    Thanks in advance

yes the 107mm are better on rougher textured asphalt than the 97 stone grounds but still have their limits, make sure you get the 38t drive as well don't buy the wheels only pack.
also just take a little care riding up sharp concrete edges because you can chip them, took a nice big chunk from one of mine comming up a 30 to 40mm concreat edge on an angle and in a heelside turn the front end slid sideways across the edge and this happend.

Cheers dude , that’s a nasty chip . I’ll be sure to get the 38t drive when the time comes although the stone ground 97’s will have to do for a while as I won’t be able to afford a second set .

i got the street gtx plus the 107mm with 38t together instead of the two in one i didn't want the at wheels.
once you have 97mm 32t and 107mm 38t you can mix n match the wheels and drives, 32t 107mm for top speed 38t 97mm for lots of hills....

but my usual is 107mm 38t for general riding.

after riding the 97mm 32t and finding the best lines around ya local area once you get on 107mm you will notice all those rides are just a little smoother, they won't suddenly let you ride places you wouldn't go on 97mm though. for that you would need AT's which come with a substantial reduction in battery range.

Yeh I get that with the deal on the AT setup vs battery life. Tbh I think the 107's will cover those more aggressive / rough tarmac roads we have in some areas and the 97's should be good for mostly very where else I will go. Just can't see me taking a £1500 board down dirt and gravel tracks ,etc. I enjoy the street element so having two street sizes should be just right. Not long now ,couple more weeks and I'll be ordering the GTX street then early summer get the 107's and 38gears :)

a thing you can do if ya sure you wont want the 97mm wheels is to email evolve before purchasing and just buy the gtx with the 107mm and 38t drives already fitted and they make the price adjustments, saves buying a set of 97mm if you wont use them.

i remembered that from when i bought my board the website did say if you have wheel drive combo preferences that you should contact them first.

Cheers for the heads up . However I think I will leave it with the 97’s and just get a set of 107’s and 38 gearing at a later date incase I decide that a AT set up will be a better alternative should I feel the streets near me need it .

Late post, but I’d get the abec 107mm over Evolve version. More durable and last a lot longer.

Although the 107s last longer, they will fall apart alot quicker than a standard skateboard ( or free-roller as I now refer to them as haha )
But its a given considering the force and prolonged speeds they get put through

The evolve 107’s are made by abec and are just modified to fit without need to mod the inner edge due to the offset . So can’t see what difference it would make . Abec wouldn’t put their name on an inferior product .

I understand what you’re saying but there’s definitely a difference between the two. My very first ride my 107mm from evolve tore up... took same route using abec version wheels are still in good shape.

When did you buy them as the first batch or early ones had some issues I believe .

The 107s are softer than the Evolve 97s, so you generally get a smoother ride. They are way better for rough pavement and cobbles. If you want something closer to an offroad wheel, the Slick Revolution Rough Stuff wheels are a good option.

I like the 97s because I love sliding and drifting corners, which you can do on the 107s but just not as well.

I have one week, and less then 10 miles on my evolve 107mm wheels and one of the rears is already cracked and about to chunk. Super disappointed. It was all pavement riding. But some rough patches and gravel on road in spots. But, that's what I thought these wheels were for!!!! What's the point of them if you gotta stay on smooth surfaces? Might as well use the 97mm wheels.

I tried to warn you all... Evolve 107mm is different from abec 107mm. Get abec 107mm... they’re so much better... hasn’t ripped to pieces at all. Evolve replaced mine for a fee but I’ll be reselling them soon. Abec 97mm are really nice as well...

I’m in the same position. Don’t really want AT set up and not sure if the board will even get up the hills in Totterdown?
Did you ever get the 107s? How did you find the board on Bristol pavements?

I went from the evolve 97's to ABEC 107's. The 97's started to chunk pretty early on but seemed to reach a point where they did not get any worse.
Since upgrading to the 107's I have done about 2000km's on a mix of footpaths, rough road\bike paths and smooth bike paths, as well as a bit of offroad on a BMX track. They now look worn but there is not one chunk missing from them.
I did recently get some AT wheels for dirt tracks but only used them once and it was wet and muddy that day, so cannot really comment on what they are like, except that the clearance was much better than the 107's.
I would highly recommend the ABEC 107's as an all round wheel. As I mentioned in a previous post they do make the board annoyingly heavy if you need to carry it around, but they give a super smooth ride, handle decent sized sticks and rocks well, and at this point I expect to be replacing them in 10 years when they have worn down to 97mm :):):)

I think it’s down to personal pref as with all things . I bought a set and after 3 rides sold them as I hated them . For me 97mm is the max size I will ride but I just have a few variations of that size .
