Hi guys, I'll be going on a trip soon to Asia and stopping through a few countries in the area and would like to hear some of your experiences with bring your eboards with you on a plane. I don't have a Evolve board yet, so while I wait I'd love to hear any inputs you guy may have. TY

Thanks Boardfreek, looks like I may have to order one for the other office (Bangkok) and one for here at home. I thought of getting a different E-board but I got to have the Evolve with me.

Maybe they could look into designing one for just that niche...small, lightweight, good battery life and can get on a airplane. Oh, will the Evolve gods hear our cries...:p

Even the boards with the smaller batteries are having troubles on certain airlines these days. Casey Neistat had his boosted board confiscated by the airline when flying out from Australia recently, or rather he was barred from checking it in, so had to leave it :(
And those are marketed as having batteries small enough to fall within the restriction limits, the problem is certain airlines have their own personal rules that are even more strict that the general FAA rules.

Like Andy says, the "hover board" issues didn't help, an now more recently you have the Samsung phone battery fiasco. The Note 7's are now completely banned from being carried in hand luggage and checked baggage in most places, and that's only a phone. This is sadly bringing the issue of transporting electronics and batteries in general to the forefront of airlines attention.

If you have the funds and freedom to get a board for each location, I would definitely do that, rather than risk having any one board confiscated by the airline just before you board. It really is a shame, as I'm with you and I've love to have a board that I could confidently travel with. I was even contemplating a Boosted Board, partly for this reason. But what with the reports of airlines being inconsistent with their decision I don't think I want to take the risk. I can't afford to have a $1500 item nabbed by a TSA or ticketing agent because they woke up on the wrong side of the bed. It's a tough choice.

I seem to remember an Aussie vlogger having trouble flying with their board too. I can't remember if that was an Evolve one or not though, in the end they ended up shipping it by land to each destination as he flew.

PS You really are an island boy! I never realised how much in the middle of no where Guam was!

It would be great if you could detach the battery, though there is still restrictions for carry on batteries in luggage Qantas Limits Carry on batteries between (rechargeable) - 101Wh-160Wh in Equipment, so maybe a travel Battery to fit these requirements would be an option.

Detaching is quite a simple job, issue is most airlines allow a max of 130 some even less as carry on.

You said it Alex, and all you guys are welcome to come over for some local BBQ!!!

Thanks for all the great input guys. Well it sure seems that traveling with with an Eboard or any large capacity battery item may not be a good idea. Like you said Alex, I wouldn't want to be in a situation where airport/airline personal can just take your very expensive property. If you do though please add your experience here for more bla, bla, bla:p

On a side note, I won't be able to place my order til late November early December and since I live in Guam, which route could get me my board quicker? Order through AU or USA Evolve outlet? And, do you have a Bangkok office/store? Thank you.

Ha! Will definitely take you up on that BBQ sometime :p

I'm not sure about which distributor would be best for yourself, I'd have a look at the Authorised Distributor list on their home page to see who is nearby.

For Thailand I imagine Singapore or Malaysia would be best through Evolve Skateboards Asia

hi I want to pickup this thread again. Can someone with inside knowledge share how a airline would detect the WH of a battery? either attached to the board or taken out of the compartment I understand 160WH is the max for airlines, well its is actually 2 of them so together 320WH which is close to evolves 360WH. Can someone enlighten me here. Thanks

Sorry to bring up an old topic and I've never actually opened my evolve bamboo gt board, but is the battery a daisy chain of several small batteries (this was the case for my Yuneec E-Go) or is it one large brick? What i'm getting at is would our boards be able to squeak by with a technicality that we're not transferring one large battery but several smaller ones, all of which are permanently installed?

sadly not because almost all batteries are made up of multiple cells. combining more cells = bigger battery. You can't argue that its multiple little batteries. Which is a shame because touring new places on these is awesome!

Could you take out the battery and mail it to your destination? Or, just mail your board to your destination? If you're staying in the hotel just call ahead and have them keep the package at the front desk. Just thinking of a work-a-round...

Mailing it is definitely the best option, however even ground shipping is hella expensive!

You can remove the battery and mail it. Then carry the board on the flight. You will just have to show them the battery has been removed.

This is probably the best way to travel with the board. Make sure to mail the battery legally. Declare it as a lithium battery. I'm not sure about USPS, but I know UPS and FEDEX do special delivery of hazmat items. And Lipo batteries are hazmat.

Supposedly the inboard M1 is airline compliant due to the removable battery. The price came down to $1k, IMHO the process of removing your evolve battery (which technically isn't made to do so on a regular basis) and transporting the board and battery separately greatly increases your chances for something to get lost or damaged than just mailing the whole board, plus the extra hassle. However shipping only the battery would be much less expensive and carrying the boand on a plane. ImI probably just gonna buy a plain ol skateboard for travel until these battery concerns go away lol!

It sounds kinda dumb but what if your battery is not charged?
