New Remote???

I heard that Evolve is going to release a new remote that changes the function of the REV button to a "gear down" button instead. Can anyone confirm this? This is my biggest (and only) complaint about the remote. That REV button is a killer!

I would love a shift up and shift down button. That was an issue that arose for me when I tested a GT for a day. It's fine on the old remote as a single press is a toggle between two, on the new one though I have to pull to the side and stop completely to change gear so I'm certain I'm happy it's in the right mode.

by change gear, do you mean change speed setting? I do understand some people have issues with the REV button, but I cant recall ever hitting it by accident, i do't rest my thumb on it so maybe thats why. I had an idea about making a cover for the remote, to give a better grip, and protect it from dropping, maybe made out of wetsuit material, with a flap that covers the REV button so it can not be pressed easily.

How about just some fine black grip tape over the reverse button and on the back of the remote to make it grippier?

The problem is, it's the kind of error you make when you're just figuring out the board. It's too easy to hit that REV button when you're not familiar or your hand hasn't gotten used to the controls. I've read a lot of newbies doing this (including myself). It's the kind of mistake you only make once, tho...

Maybe add a big red 'R' to it using nail polish

    Yep :)

yeah good idea, but I was thinking more of a case, but still thin, so if you drop your remote or whatever it wont get damaged or scuffed

The remote failing is a huge issue that I believe is not being addressed by EVOLVE with the importance it has.
Now, when Milkman here brought up the issue asking if anyone can confirm they are working on an improvement, no one gave any comment about it other than their own particular concerns. The remote is as important as the whole skateboard and as long as it keeps breaking apart when the battery is being juiced down before being depleted, the dummy reverse button being activated so freaking easy and the whole remote construction being so cheap as they say... we are not safe out there. Maybe they (meaning Evolve and users) will start paying more attention when more of us get hurt or even worst ?

There is a new remote out, but only changes the speed mode function (gear up and down), harder to hit the REV by accident, but I will say i have never hit it by accident, there is no need to rest your thumb on that button, it is only for sync and REV functions. The connection issue is with the board it self, the motor controller and or receiver, many have had this replaced, and seems to be the root of the problem.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I like the remote, yes it's sensitive on the trigger but seems well made, hasn't let me down and I've never hit the reverse button by accident as I'm careful to hold it without fingers or thumb over the buttons. I feel sorry for anyone who has hurt themselves by thinking they were in forward mode and actually in reverse but come on guys it didn't put itself in reverse did it?

yeah, some people are reporting the board "threw them off" or "locked on brakes" but this doesn't happen, if a fault happens, the lower cuts and the board acts like a normal rolling skateboard, but they may think the sudden lack of power jolts then a bit :)

To be fair the reverse was in the same place on the old remote too, I've not had any issues. Although I do think the new one is a nice improvement considering there's 4 gears now.

It was fine toggling between 2 on the old one, but not ideal with 4.

The shift up shift down ability the refreshed remote enables is a much bigger draw for me than removing the reverse. That's just a bonus.

That's the main thing for me, too. I only ever hit the REV button by mistake once. (That's a lesson you only need to learn once!) The ability to quickly upshift and downshift is a HUGE interface improvement. I nearly always keep my board in FAST mode and only switch to GT when I need the power. It's nice to ride in FAST most of the time as it saves the battery for long cruises. Then I need to hit the button 3 more times and wait for the lag... that just disrupts the flow of the ride.

Curious, how often do people actually use reverse?

I never do. But some people do, so I've read.

When I'm cruising through the dodgy estate up the road from me and I see a big group of chavs ahead.

I gently roll to a stop, crank it into reverse, then ever so quietly back myself into the nearest hedge to hide until they're gone so I don't get mugged.

I asked Evolve on the new remote as my board just shipped and I asked for a replacement policy as I would love to have the up and down options in speed and reverse could be removed completely. It threw me off my board on one of the first rides as I touched the button by accident. So far reply from Evolve AU is that I should check with Evolve DE as they delivered the board. They only provided feedback on the difference of the remote and nothing on a exchange options or discounted option as of the newly bought board and just released new remote

Does the new remote only have 1 reverse speed? Or can you use all the spreads like the old remote?

Yeah I know, I don't use it very often, loss of features is just never a nice feeling though.
